LAVS 2018 – 240 HOUR UPDATE

WESTBROOK MADE IT! Everyone left, made it.

80 runners total completed the unforgiving 500K. Richard Westbrook finished at around 3:45ish am with a time of 9 days, 20 hours, 3 minutes, and 54 seconds. He was the last to finish and is now the only runner to have finished first and last for Vol State. His finishing quote:

“I’m never doing that again.”

LAVS 2018 – 228 HOUR UPDATE

With the cut-off time quickly approaching at 7:30 am, Westbrook WILL MAKE IT!

He has passed Oprah and is in Kimball at mile 302. He sounds much better now than he has of late. I will be at the finish to congratulate and maybe slap him later, once he has recovered. Right now there are 4 people left on the road. Westbrook is the third one with Juliet Brundige one mile behind him. BJ Timoner has stayed out there to ensure no more falls for Dad. Thank goodness someone is watching him.

Everyone has been AMAZING cheering him on and he really doesn’t even know it! I always tell him though and he appreciates it whether he expresses it or not. A man of few words. Let’s all keep praying for a safe finish for the last 4 competitors and a HUGE congratulations!!!!!!

With 48 hours remaining, Westbrook has accomplished 252 miles and is past Manchester. One more participant dropped out so that is a total of 34 who have quit.

I received a call from Mom while in class today about Dad. He called her to tell her something rather than her seeing it on facebook or somewhere. His latest news:

He was walking and stepped on something with his injured foot which made him jump. He landed on slick grass with his other foot and ended up falling down a 10 foot embankment. Luckily, BJ Timoner was around and laid on the road to try and pull him up. Since it was at night, EMTs noticed the light from his headlamp go off the road and downhill so they stopped. He said they basically brushed him off and he continued on…

This man! He needs a babysitter out there, lol. Monteagle is coming up and will definitely be murder on his foot! Stay tuned to see how this all turns out. Keep him in your prayers. Not sure if his drive and persistence is a good or bad thing in this case.

With Oprah gaining on him, Westbrook is at mile 238, past Wartrace. 76 miles left! He broke his toe the night before the race. One would think he would not have even started, but if you know him at all, you understand that would be highly unlikely. The picture previously posted of his toe was from the night it happened. He has not taken his shoe off since he began the race. I am sure it looks EXTREMELY bad by now.
