NUMBER 67 – As of 84 hours into the race, Westbrook has made it to Hohenwald, Tennessee and finished 145 miles. For now, he is in 39th place of the 67 screwed runners.

Richard called home again. He has not felt better at all and said the heat is ungodly! He is taking a break to see how he feels later in order to continue on. The pain in his hamstring is lingering and now his side/back is hurting. He is sure it is an electrolyte depletion so the plan is for rest and Gatorade. He had this happen before in two other ultra races (one being Vol State and the other a race across Georgia 2 years ago) and he was unable to finish, barely being able to walk.

Hopefully the rest helps and not sure how much Gatorade is needed to replenish the electrolytes lost. Wish him luck and keep him in your prayers. Tomorrow’s weather report for his area will be 89 degrees but feels like 92 degrees, 92% humidity and 10% chance of rain.

LAVS 2016 – 72 HOUR UPDATE

Three days behind them and into day four, Westbrook is in Hohenwald at 144 miles with 2 other runners. He finally slept for 3 hours and consumed a breakfast burrito to help sustain him for more miles to come. Refer to the map above and notice the tombstones. At this check-in, 4 more people have dropped out to make a total of 12 who have quit (5 crewed and 7 screwed). Currently, Westbrook is holding 22nd place, of 52 runners, in the screwed category.

After 3 days complete, Westbrook is taking a break in Hohenwald, TN with 144 miles behind him. He had some difficult times, only being able to keep some V8 juice down and vomiting anything else up. I am sure the heat tends to get to everyone out there suffering through it. The heat index today is going to be 105 degrees. 4 more screwed runners have quit leaving a total of 49. Westbrook is currently 16th place tied with 3 other people. Pray he makes it along in the extreme heat today without any more issues.

Having run just past Hohenwald at 146 miles, Richard is almost halfway! At this point, the beginning of day 4, one more runner in the screwed division has dropped out. Now there are 44 runners still competing in Richard’s division. He is in 12th place along with 3 fellow runners. Go Team Westbrook!
