One week behind them and 3 days left to complete the 500K, or 314 miles, to The Rock! 57th out of 59 total, Westbrook remains ahead of Oprah. He remains in pain with a toe that is probably broken since the night before the race began. He said it is impossible to run now with the injury, and is walking to make it to the finish.

He is at mile 223 in Shelbyville. YAYYYYYY, LESS THAN 100 MILES REMAINING! 28 screwed runners have quit and 33 total have dropped out, throughout the race. He is doing all he can to make it but will need SERIOUS recovery time when it is all over. Considering he maintains a streak of running at least a mile every day, he will not be completely off of his foot to heal. He will ALWAYS get in that mile if he can not do more, no matter, rain, snow, ice, illness, injury, or broken bones.

Wish him luck and pray he makes it safely!

At the end of day 5 Richard has moved into 12th place in his division at a total of 220 miles which places him past Lewisburg. There remains 38 “screwed” runners. As mentioned before in a previous update, due to high heat temps, Westbrook is running at night to remain cooler.

Earlier this evening, the weather around Lewisburg and most of Tennessee looked pretty bad, in the red of a storm. Fortunately, now it appears to have lightened up and just consist of lighter rain all over. He will run from Lewisburg to Shelbyville, then Manchester, and on down to Georgia. If he is not drenched tonight, maybe he will run right out of the bad weather. Who knows, maybe all the rain will cool things off for everyone.

Westbrook was reported as approaching Shelbyville in 14th place overall. He is currently the 10th individual runner and the 7th individual/unsupported runner. He has run 222 miles thus far and is not stopping. LESS THAN 100 TO GO!

Richard called his wife, Jan, to tell her briefly that he made it to Shelbyville. His phone was dying then. Hope he can find somewhere to charge it or he can’t check-in.

Next update tomorrow.
